When to Use Harvard Style

Harvard referencing is an author-date system widely used in UK universities and internationally. It's particularly common in business, economics, and some sciences. Note: There are multiple variations of Harvard style; always check your institution's specific guidelines.

Reference List Formatting Guidelines

  • โœ“Title: "References" or "Reference List" centered at top
  • โœ“Order: Alphabetical by author's surname
  • โœ“Hanging Indent: Second and subsequent lines indented
  • โœ“Spacing: Single-space within entries, double between
  • โœ“Author Names: Surname, Initials. (no full first names)
  • โœ“Italics: Italicize titles of books and journals
  • โœ“Titles: Use sentence case for article/chapter titles
